Is being a roller coaster critic your job?

Ask Me

Bob Mampe and The Coaster CriticAlong the lines of being asked how to become a roller coaster critic, I’m also asked how to get into this profession. This blog and my other sites are all just a hobby for now. I have a “real job”.

By day, I’m a Web Analytics Manager. Basically, I help companies understand how people are using their websites and how they can make their sites better. I’ve had paid freelance writing gigs (Gadling) and some advertising income, but being a roller coaster critic is far from a profession at this point.

It has been quite rewarding using what I’ve learned in my day job and applying it to my hobby and vice-versa. Also, there are some pretty cool perks like media passes, getting to interview people, and also being interviewed by media outlets.

Founder of CoasterCritic.com. My favorite coasters are B&M hypers and gigas. I'm also a huge fan of terrain roller coasters.
