Koch Family Buys Former Alabama Adventure

Roller Coaster News Uncategorized

Last month, Koch Family Parks, purchased Splash Adventure and its former amusement park area Alabama Adventure. Dan Koch referenced 5 year plans that include saving one of my all-time favorite woodies Rampage.

Dan Koch, president of Splash Adventure, said in an interview today he wants to bring back the Rampage wooden rollercoaster that was once the focal point of the park and garnered national accolades as one of the best wooden rollercoasters in the world. The coaster was shut down as the previous owners focused exclusively on the waterpark side of the operations and eschewed the amusement park.

This is some really encouraging news as I was really impressed with Rampage. So impressed that I wrote this post last year, “Rampage Roller Coaster Needs a New Home” asking someone to save this Custom Coasters International gem. It had great speed, air, and was surprisingly smooth.

Read my full review of Rampage and watch this POV video of the ride:

Note – These videos were filmed with permission from the park. For safety reasons, please DO NOT take a camera on a roller coaster without permission.

I’m hopeful that the Koch family can bring their experience to this park and eventually create a great two park attraction in the deep South.

  1. This is just what we need…

With Kentucky Kingdom and Alabama Adventure now with promising looking futures, it’d be great if someone could do something with Hard Rock.

    • Great point Dillon. It’d be nice to see all three of these parks make a comeback. Although Hard Rock/Freestyle was barely around long enough to establish itself.

  2. Are you.going to do one last post today?

    • I’ve actually got about another week’s worth of posts that I had to delay. Between the day job, buying a house, and traveling, I got busy again. No matter what I won’t ‘leave’ without saying goodbye. I’m targeting next Thursday or Friday for my last post now.

Stay tuned. I got a fun one coming tomorrow. Sorry for the confusion.

  3. i wish they would fix geagua lake. they closed it for a waterpark only. Cedar Fair dismantled all of the rides and put them at their other parks. It was really sad when this happened.

  4. Considering the total success of Holiday World and the style and care they use in managing and maintaining their facilities, this can ONLY be good news.
