Mystic Timbers is Kings Island’s Mysterious New Roller Coaster

Mystic Timbers Opening at Kings Island in 2017

This Spring, Kings Island will be opening a new roller coaster called Mystic Timbers. It’ll be the park’s 15th roller coaster and 4th wooden roller coaster. Mystic Timbers will be 109 feet tall and reach speeds of 53 mph along a course of 3,265 feet featuring 16 airtime hills. It will be located in the Rivertown section of the park near hyper coaster Diamondback.

What to Expect: A Low-Flying Journey Through the Woods & Something in a Shed

While considerably smaller than the park’s legendary Beast, Mystic Timbers will borrow a bit from that ride’s “journey through the woods” layout. Adding an enhanced feeling of speed, guests will zoom by trees, over a ravine, and through a tunnel. It’s sure to be another gem from designers Great Coasters International.

After that, we’ve been kept in the dark about what’s inside the shed seen at the end of the ride’s POV video (see below) via a #Whatsintheshed campaign. I have to say, Kings Island has done a good job keeping the mystery going with the shed. In this day with theme park paparazzi hiding in every bush and even drones providing aerial views, I’m impressed the secret has lasted this long.

  1. Hey Joel. Great post. I’m such a big fan of the site, I would absolutely love to be one of the roller coaster critics

    • Thanks Josh. Like I said, I’ll have more details soon.

      • Great! Thanks for responding!

  2. I think this is a great addition to Kings Island. This coaster is proof that you don’t always need the tallest or the fastest, sometimes its the smaller things that make a big impact. As a current resident of Cincinnati with a Kings Island Gold Pass, I can say that this is something the General Public has wanted for years. This coaster will be the next step for young riders who aren’t able to ride larger rides yet given their size. With Mystic Timbers 48″ height requirement, more families will be able to ride together. This ride is the definitive example of how a good roller coaster and good theming can go hand in hand. All things considered, this could arguably be the best GCI to date.
