Cedar Fair announced plans for a multi-year $50 million investment of Charlotte, NC park Carowinds that will include new rides, restaurants, and infrastructure upgrades. While Carowinds already boasts 13 roller coasters, we may start seeing what was meant by the “Cedar Point of the South” statement mentioned at an enthusiast event years ago. Behind the Scares: Scarowinds 2012 Trip Report Part 1

I joined CoasterCrew earlier this week for their Haunt Event at Scarowinds. It was great as I was given a special behind-the-scenes look at how these Halloween-themed events come together. I arrived at the park around 5 PM; hours before Carowinds transforms into Scarowinds. It was a sunny afternoon and I knew the park was going to take on a much different vibe in a few hours as night fell and the ...[Read More]

Halloween-Themed Events: Gory Goodness or Gone Too Far

It’s October and amusement parks across the country have been transformed into spooky night time playgrounds. From the Center for Disease Control’s Zombie Preparedness 101 to zombies riding Six Flags America’s Apocalypse earlier this year, it’s clear that we are in the middle of the zombification era. Expect it to continue for a while with the popularity of TV series The Wa...[Read More]

Cedar Fair Grounds All 6 Windseekers

Earlier this week, Cedar Fair decided to shut down all of its WindSeeker rides. Like an over-sized version of the traditional amusement park swing ride, the WindSeeker’s boast impressive views some 300-feet above the ground. Unfortunately, on several occassions this year, riders have been treated to those views for an extended period of time. Riders have been stuck on the ride for hours at s...[Read More]

What Roller Coaster Would You Ride in a Coaster Marathon?

While I make it a goal to try to ride new roller coasters as much as possible, there are other enthusiasts that pride themselves in having 100 or even 1,000 rides on a single roller coaster. Last month, Kings Island celebrated a 70-year old man’s 7,000th ride on Diamondback. Could there be a better testament to B&M’s smooth rides? Roller Coaster Marathons – A Test of Coaster ...[Read More]

A Review of WindSeeker at Carowinds (Video)

Yesterday, I was lucky enough to be one of the first to ride Carowinds’ new 2012 attraction WindSeeker. Similar to the four that opened at other Cedar Fair parks last year, WindSeeker is a towering flat ride that lifts riders to a lofty 301 feet and spins them at 30 mph. It’s been described by the park as a family ride that’s also a thrill ride. Even though I typically stick to r...[Read More]
