Rumor – Cedar Fair Planning to Remove Arrow Looping Coasters

If an interesting rumor from Screamscape turns out to be true, that aging Arrow looper at the Cedar Fair park near you may be on the way out. Here’s what Lance posted last week: (11/6/12) According to an anonymous spy source, Cedar Fair is said to making plans to retire Vortex at Kings Island (1987) and Anaconda at Kings Dominion (1991) sometime in the next few years. Apparently they seem to...[Read More]

Cedar Fair Grounds All 6 Windseekers

Earlier this week, Cedar Fair decided to shut down all of its WindSeeker rides. Like an over-sized version of the traditional amusement park swing ride, the WindSeeker’s boast impressive views some 300-feet above the ground. Unfortunately, on several occassions this year, riders have been treated to those views for an extended period of time. Riders have been stuck on the ride for hours at s...[Read More]

What’s Your Most Memorable Night Ride on a Roller Coaster?

Riding roller coasters at night can make for a very different experience. If you typically leave amusement parks before it gets dark or just haven’t found yourself on a roller coaster at night then I suggest you make an effort to make sure you ride your park’s best coaster after dark. I had what I’d consider an all-time top two or three coaster experience during a night ride on t...[Read More]

Kings Island to Remove Son of Beast

Yesterday Kings Island announced that it will be removing their troubled Son of Beast roller coaster. Built in 2000, it was the first modern wooden roller coaster with a loop. In July of 2006, an accident on the roller coaster sent two dozen people to local hospitals. During Cedar Fair’s ownership of the park, the loop was removed even though it was not thought to be the cause of the acciden...[Read More]

Cedar Fair’s 2012 Infrastructure Upgrades

Leviathan, Dinosaurs Alive, and a few Windseekers are the more thrilling additions coming to Cedar Fair parks across North America. 2012 will be a relatively quiet year for Cedar Fair parks, with Leviathan being the only brand new roller coaster opening across the entire chain. However, many parks are gearing up for major infrastructural improvements as well as a few minor adjustments to their cur...[Read More]

Featured Photo #28 – Invertigos A No-Go

Six Flags America’s Two Face was one of the roller coasters that Six Flags added to Adventure World when it bought  the park. Along with launch coaster Joker’s Jinx, hyper coaster Superman: Ride of Steel and flying coaster Batwing, the park’s lineup of modern thrill rides boomed in only a few years. Two Face had a run of accidents before it was removed in 2008 and I’m baffl...[Read More]

Reviews of the WindSeekers & SkyScreamers

Tower Rides Rule the Skies in the Summer of 2011 This year, a number of towering swing rides debuted at theme parks across the continent. WindSeekers debuted at four Cedar Fair parks: Canada’s Wonderland, Cedar Point, Kings Island, and Knott’s Berry Farm. They’re identical (I think) 301′ tall swing rides that spin riders at 30 mph. And, Six Flags installed two similar high altitude swings in...[Read More]

Top 3 All-Time Favorite Roller Coaster Rides

Reader DC suggested I write the antithesis of Top 3 Worst Roller Coaster Experiences, my all-time favorite roller coaster rides. I’ve ridden over 200 roller coasters and had probably over a thousand actual rides. Of those rides these are the three that stand out the most. 3 – A Train of Our Own On Raging Wolf Bobs at Geauga Lake (Fall 2005) I do a lot of solo trips, so it was fun visit...[Read More]

Top 3 Roller Coasters from My Birth Year

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I got the idea for this edition of Top 3 Thursdays from Jake at Coasterdom. Recently, he did a post listing his favorite roller coasters from the year he was born. He was working with a pretty strong year; 1991. My birth year was a bit more sparse, but the top pick is undeniable. Here’s my list of the best new coasters 1979 had to offer: 3 – Rolling Thunder...[Read More]

Top 3 States for Roller Coasters

In a potentially controversial edition of Top 3 Thursdays, I’m going to share my Top 3 States for Roller Coasters. Instead of a top three ranking, I’m going to list the the three states and explain why. Here’s the list in no particular order: Pennsylvania – Quantity, Variety, & History Pennsylvania is the roller coaster mecca in my opinion. There’s a lot of histor...[Read More]
