Will Great America's Racing Wooden Coaster Get a Steel Upgrade?

Will Six Flags Great America’s 2014 Attraction Involve a Rocky Mountain Conversion I came across a really interesting rumor for Six Flags Great America’s next new ride. According to Screamscape, there’s a rumor that American Eagle, a twin track racing wooden roller coaster, could get a Rocky Mountain steel track conversion for just one of the circuits. Thus, making giving one of ...[Read More]

X-Flight vs. Wild Eagle | Roller Coaster Showdown

Which of These Roller Coasters Will be King of the Wing? I had a pretty busy year. Not as busy as some, but for me I got to travel a good bit. A highlight of my year was that I was able to ride both of the new B&M wing roller coasters that opened in America this year; Wild Eagle at Dollywood and X-Flight at Six Flags Great America. As I do for ever roller coaster showdown, I’ll pick a fe...[Read More]

Talking X-Flight with Six Flags Great America’s Katy Enrique

When I was at Six Flags Great America, I interviewed PR Manager Katy Enrique. I spoke with her about X-Flight. We talked about the planning for the ride, the near-misses, and the decisions that were made to bring this popular new wing roller coaster to Six Flags Great America. We walked back to the ride right before the park was open on a Saturday morning. We stopped in front of X-Flight as it was...[Read More]

Whizzer @ Six Flags Great America | Coaster Reviews

After hundreds of roller coasters and dozens of amusement parks, the thing that keeps me going is my desire for new experiences. Not necessarily more intense thrills. As such, Whizzer was a highlight of my trip to Six Flags Great America as it definitely provided a new and unique experience. I’d been told that Whizzer was a must ride and I can see why. The 1976 Schwarzkopf Jumbo Jet coaster ...[Read More]

X-Flight @ Six Flags Great America | Roller Coaster Review

Fans of Six Flags Great America have been waiting nearly a decade for another large roller coaster to join the Chicago-area park’s lineup. Would the saying, Good things come to those who wait apply? Or, would the $15 million X-Flight be another over-hyped attraction that doesn’t live up to expectations? I had to fly out to the Midwest to find out. Especially, after I (contributing to t...[Read More]

Talking Wing Coasters with Popular Mechanics

Popular Mechanics wrote an article about the wing rider revolution that’s reaching our shores this summer. Okay, so two roller coasters doesn’t really count as a revolution, but it’s definitely a trend. The article also covers Hersheypark’s Skyrush. Not to be left out, the Intamin hyper coaster has wing-ish trains. Well, they’re really more likeĀ Apollo’s Chariot...[Read More]

X-Flight’s ‘Test Flight’ Video

Six Flags Great America has posted a test video of X-Flight. My pick for the most anticipated new roller coaster is looking pretty good. It’ll be cool to see how this ride all comes together once the flight tower, fog, and water canons have been integrated. It looks a little slow, but larger trains often look a lot slower than they are. Also, those inversions don’t need a lot of speed ...[Read More]
