Let the speculation begin! Two Cedar Fair owned parks have been clearing land. Every year, bulldozers and hard hats cause roller coaster enthusiasts to salivate as we begin the guessing game of what new attraction the theme parks in question are going to build. Official announcements aren’t likely to be made for several months, but that won’t stop the rumor mill. So far, both parks are rumored to get the one major roller coaster type that they don’t have: a hyper coaster.
Aside from adding a missing ride to their lineups, Cedar Fair has been adding hyper coasters to their other parks in recent years. Behemoth at Canada’s Wonderland in 2008 and Diamondback at Kings Island this year, may have set the tone for additional hyper coasters in 2010. Hyper coasters are 200-feet plus (20 stories or more) steel roller coasters that emphasize height, speed, and airtime. They’re one of my favorite coaster types so if the rumors are true, I’ll be very happy next year. I live pretty close to Carowinds and about 4 hours from my old home park Kings Dominion.
Carowinds 2010 Roller Coaster
UPDATE – The day has come and Carowinds has made their official announcment. Looking for information on Carowinds Intimidator? Visit my post here.
While attending the Carolina Cobra Media Day last month, a few enthusiasts and I got an early look at the Carowinds 2009 park map. We confirmed news that the log flume had been removed. In addition, I took the opportunity
while at the media day to try to get some early information out of Carowinds’ Public Relations Manager, Dani Swords. She stated that Carowinds is in one of only two growth markets (Charlotte, NC) in the whole Cedar Fair chain. The other is Canada’s Wonderland in Toronto which received the impressive Behemoth in 2008. She mentioned that Cedar Fair will be looking to invest especially in these markets because that’s where they can see the most potential. While she stopped short of spilling any details or even hints of the park’s 2010 plans, her statement reinforces the notion that the park will recieve some attention from the Cedar Fair management. And attention often equals new roller coaster! Just this week, the park has started their teasing campaign with signs on the construction wall surrounding the site. Carowindsflyer has several construction site photos taken from the Skytower posted here.
UPDATE – 7/21 A photo was posted on CarowindsConnection yesterday that has caused quite a stir in the coaster enthusiast community. It is supposed to be a ’spy photo’ in a marketing office at the park. It’s said to show the name and theme for the Carowinds’ yet tobe revealed 2010 roller coaster. Read more..>>
Kings Dominion’s 2010 Roller Coaster
More recently, Kings Dominion has started clearing land beyond Flight of Fear and Anaconda. Aerial shots have emerged of the land clearing and now a local government document has solidified the rumors a bit. The document mentions a “new roller coaster,” but nothing additional.
UPDATE – 6/2/09 – There’s been a pretty major development at Kings Dominion. Today, yellow supports were seen being unloaded from trailers. Go to KD Fansite for the first ‘spy’ photos of this project. The supports don’t tell us too much about what the coaster will be. We do know that won’t likely be a Bolliger & Mabillard coaster. Many have compared the structures to that of iSpeed at Mirabilandia. If it’s an Intamin, that would support my theory of an Intamin hyper or Mega Lite coaster. But no one knows anything for sure.
UPDATE – 6/5 –Clint Novak from CoasterCrew has uploaded a video of the supports and of the land clearing. No track yet.
UPDATE – 6/11 In a strange turn of events, the yellow supports that showed up at Kings Dominion have been loaded back onto trucks and removed from the parking lot. Rumors suggest that the wrong roller coaster was shipped to Kings Dominion and it actually received the supports for Carowinds’ roller coaster, but no one has confirmed this. Check out another great video by Clint from KDFansite.com. He was pretty shocked as he thinks that they’re about unload new track pieces and instead they start removing the supports.
UPDATE – 6/12 Kings Dominion pulled the old bait and switch. Recently, actual track not just supports this time, was unloaded in the parking lot. Now there’s still the debate of the ride’s make. Most are arguing for either Intamin or Premier, while others are throwing in the wild card of the prototype Vekoma hyper coasters. I’m no trackologist and I really can’t bring anything new to the discussion. I’m still leaning towards Intamin. Here’s a link to an image of the red track for Kings Dominion’s 2010 coaster.
UPDATE – 6/22 A poster from ThemeParkReview has discovered what may confirm the Giga coaster rumors. He zoomed in on a package of washers. On the packing slip was ‘Giga Coaster’ in the lower left hand corner. It will likely be a while before this is confirmed, but this is about as close you can get to concrete proof. Rejoice Kings Dominion fans and any coaster fan living in the Mid Atlantic. There’s a monster on it’s way to Central Virginia! People are speculating that the double spine red track may be Intamin’s new stronger design that is said to require fewer supports. Read the full update: Kings Dominion to Get a Giga Coaster in 2010
UPDATE – 7/10 Footers have been poured and several are visible in the construction zone. Also, more track has been unloaded in the parking lot. Last and most importantly, the crest of the lift hill track has been delivered. The lift hill track looks very similar to Millennium Force’s further solidifying the Giga coaster theory. Any kind of launch coaster is pretty much out of the question now.
Here’s KDFansite’s latest video report of construction of the new Giga Coaster:
My Early Guesses
I’m very surprised that Kings Dominion would get another roller coaster at this point. I would have said that the clearing is for some support buildings of Halloween-themed buildings like those installed at Carowinds recently, but with the Hanover County document, there must be a roller coaster in the works. Currently, I’m leaning with the rumors that Kings Dominion will get a hyper coaster.
For Carowinds, I really do believe that they will get a hyper coaster. It could really help to put the park on the map moreso that it already is. Six Flags Over Georgia has Goliath about 4 hours away and Carowinds could match the magnitude of that ride with a hyper coaster of their own.
UPDATE 8/12 – A new ‘sponsor’ appeared on Cedar Point’s sponsor page. Crystal Rock Bottling Company is now listed and their logo takes you to a one page site describing Whyte Lightning; a Bold, Exciting, & Refreshing beverage. So which of the new coasters is this a hint for? Visit WhyteLightning.com.
Carowinds & White Lightning
White Lightning has been thought to be the name of the Carowinds coaster. Since Carowinds had a coaster named ‘White Lightnin’ in the past, the whole “Lightning Strikes Twice” thing would be the expected motto of the ride. Also, this leaked teaser photo was said to be from taken at Carowinds. In addition, NASCAR is huge in the Charlotte area and the image invokes the history of the sport that involved moonshine smugglers. We’ll find out when the park releases all of the details on August 26th!
Kings Dominion & White Lightning
The invitations for the announcement at Kings Dominion on the 20th were shaped like a race car and in the invite, a NASCAR driver was mentioned to be in attendance that day. Also, some have looked closely at the moonshine bottle in the image and noticed an upside-down Millennium Force logo. With the new Kings Dominion coaster rumored to be a Giga Coaster, and with this being teased by Cedar Point, could they be giving a nod to Millennium Force’s new big or little brother? Stay tuned because in one week we’ll know. On August 20th, Kings Dominion will finally spill the beans.
UPDATE
I’m closing comments here. Please direct discussion of the new coaster here: Kings Dominion Announces Intimidator 305 And direct Carowinds 2010 comments here: Spy Photo Reveals White Lightning Name.

Note there are 2 unknown B&Ms at their Ohio plant…One is definitely a hyper, the other is unknown. Would fit well with this idea
Good point WhakoJacko, I forgot to mention that. I'll see if anyone has posted some spy photos of the track. Either way, these two parks could very well be the homes of that mystery track at the plant. Read more about the Ohio Bolliger & Mabillard plant.
I just really hope Carowinds gets something major. It has been my home park for most of my life, and with the exception of Afterburn and Nighthawk(on a good day), the park is below standard, in my opinion. The park just doesn't have enough world-class roller coasters to entertain an enthusiast like myself. My friends and I normally go to Carowinds about twice a year, but I told myself that I would not return until they got a major new ride. Carolina Cobra does not do it for me, so I'm glad the possibility of something major is finally here. I think a lot of Carowinds' ho-hum-ness comes from the fact that no major theme park is in close proximity to it, so without any direct competition, they've gotten by as is. It's great that change is being made.
Well you(coaster critic) shouldnt be suprised with kings dominion, kings island got firehawk in 07 and diamondback in 09( 2 year difference) and a lot of the new kings dominion rumors are for a flyer now and markers have been spotted in the flight of fear queue line(obviously not inside)
Travis, I guess a flying roller coasters at Kings Dominion would be cool as long as its custom and not another Superman Ultimate Flight clone. They're fine I'd just rather see something somewhat unique.
I think that Kings Dominion relly needs a Hyper Coaster. Bush Gardens is only 1 hour away and they have 3 roller coaster that top all of Kings Dominions lineup. I am wondering why non of KD's rollercaster top the 200ft mark. If you take a long look at KD, the park seems to be a rip off of Kings Island. All of KD's rollercoster are much smaller versions of Kings Islands. I live 1 1/2 away from Kings Dominion, but I would perfer to drive to park futher away to ride a Hyper Coaster any Day!!!!!
Yes we need a hyper but to put this in our drop zone is taller! our woodies are nothing like kings islands with the exception of the little one and volcano is nothing like anything else I think a hyper would go great back in old virginia
The Grizzly much is a smaller rip off of the Beast and none of the Wooden coaster at KD compares to Son of the Beast at KI. The Rebel Yell is a smaller version of the Racer at KI. The Shockwave was smaller than KI's Stand Up the King Cobra. The Vortex is better the Anaconda. KD does have the Blast Coaster i will give them that but KD roller coaster collection compared to KI it really isnt one. KI wins hands down. My guess is that KI always had to compete with Cedar Point because both are in Ohio. But with BGE stepping up their coaster line up. KD has to have a Hyper or 2 if they want to attract coaster lovers in the state of VA. I always heard that Virgina had a Height restriction that would not allow coasters to be taller than 160 ft. BGE dispelled that with the Alpengist, Griffon and Apllo's Chariot all are taller and better than any KD coaster. The Blast coaster is not as good as Alpengist. I have rode the Kinda Ka, Top Thrill Dragster, (all of Cedar Points coasters minus Maverick) and all of BGE's with the exception of Griffon.Growing up my brother and I would always argue with my cousin over which park had the best coaster between KD and BGE and We would always say KD. As an Adult and a ultimate thrill rider I cant began to say that any more because the conversation was lost in the 90's when Apengist was launched. KD has better get some love from Cedar Fair.
Actually shockwave isnt a smaller replica they were the same height and different layouts, vortex dosnt go under water like anaconda,i like volcano better than alpengeist but thats just my opinion alpengeist is a cool ride though and i checked and kings dominion dosnt have any height restrictions for their rides which opens the way for anything do you know if kings island has restrictions?
Its gotta be a B&M hyper it looks like cedar fair is starting a trend…first Behemoth…then Diamondback…now this…and you can prolly count on stadium style seats to because DB and behemoth both have these…although i don't know whats going on over there because i live near KI…P.S. Diamondback is awesome
The one thing people don't understand about Kings Dominion is it is was an "expriemental" park. The park managament prefers to put in "new, exciting, and 'untested' thrill expreiences." Volcano, Hypersonic, ect… Yes Kings Dominion gets second hand thrills after Kings Island, but that doesn't mean the tradition will continue. Each park is moving in different directions. Kings Island is looking to rebuild its interior before it looks to expand beyond its borders. The offseason addition of Diamondback to the Rivertown has compltely retuned the area with new business and guest traffic. From offseason work on the Coney Island Mall it looks that KI will continue internal repairs.
Carowinds is also looking for the same. With the adition of the Carolina Cobra it looks that Carowinds is turning a new leaf and moving foward with new ideas. I have new expectations for this park under Cedar Fair leadership. The identity of Carowinds next coaster should begin to appear within the month of May. As seen in a county document late last year, Carowinds will be recieving a B&M Hypercoaster. I expect it to have similar design to both Behemoth and Diamondback. The track is probably the new red track being produced at the Ohio B&M Plant. (The Yellow track is probably the new Invert/floorless going to Valleyfair?)
I expect splash effect like at Dimondback. The footers construction should start by late May. Someone sould keep a lookout for them.
Kings Dominion is looking to expand its borders. Most of the interior(except that visual hole left by Hypersonic XLC's tower. Which was suppose to be filled by the Monster ride (BlackWidow) from Geauge Lake before it fail pre-construction safety inspection.) only needs small modifications. Other than the fact Shockwave will be coming down one day due to the fact that TOGO is defuct and the park mantenience is spending bundles to keep it running, most of the coasters will continue to run for years to come.
One thing that will come true is Kings Dominion will not recieve a B&M hypercoaster in 2010. B&M usually produces no more than three to five major coasters a year. In 2009, B&M produced three coasters(Diamondback,Manta,& Unamed Dive Machine) Its largest year of production was 1999 with 8 different coasters. Its unlikely it would attempt this again.
Anyway, with Cedar Fair's infatuation with Intamin AG I would expect them to proceed with another exprimental coaster. From the rumors that have been spreading, supposively, Kings Dominion will be getting an Intamin Gigacoaster. Exact height isn't know but i've heard 380 feet. If anyone else had heard any rumors like this please tell me.
yes the rumors are with an intamin giga as high as the eiffle tower becuase simply they have to build something big and fast that will beat superman and apollos chariot. it has pretty much been confirmed that kings dominion will not be getting a b&m so look for an intamin
Carowinds is my home park too. I agree with CoasterDude that it seriously needs a really great coaster, so I am daring to get my hopes up a bit after reading all of this.
I don't know much about the construction process and layout of these things (I just
L-O-O-O-O-O-V-E to ride them), so I have a question: I was just there (Carowinds) last week, and saw the construction area where this fabulousness is hopefully going to materialize, and it seems like a fairly small space to me. Can someone explain to me how a hypercoaster is going to fit? Will the track meander over and through the existing park like Goliath at SFOG? Or what?
BTW, for anyone who hasn't been there, Carowinds is a great place to bring kids who are too old for baby rides, want a bit of thrill, but haven't quite worked their way up to the big stuff. They actually have three smaller coasters there (among other things good for kids) that my 10-yr-old adores and will ride continuously, and yet they are a bit of a hoot for me too. And they have a water park, always a hit. So if you know kids who want a moderate level of thrill, they will have a good time there, and it won't totally suck for the adult who is accompanying them.
Kids aside, give me the HYPER please.
Most likely CarolinaGirl the coaster will meander into the ajacent parking lot. Back when Behmoth started construction many people didn't understand how they were going to fit the coaster into a small space. The coaster went on to ride through the small space next to the park lake and and behind a matenaince building. I assume that will be the same fate for the Carowinds Hyper.
Imagine, A huge Red Track Monster streaking across the sky and through the parking lot. It would be the signature ride of the park like how Volcano & Dominator are to KD and Apollo's Chariot of BGE.
And Travis, You place a good point that the new KD coaster would have to be bigger than anything built in the area.
I've also heard a rumor that the new coaster will also interact with the upper water park. That would be a sit to see from the top of Pipeline's Peak.
yeah people are hopeing to get some good views of construction from up there(pipeline peak) Ill check things out when I go may 30th but I dont expect to see any construction till after july 4th because of the fireworks in the area
For the Kings Dominion crowd, I'd be shocked it KD gets a giga coaster. I'd need more to back up that theory as roller coasters that tall are very rare and expensive. If it's anything Intamin-made, what about an Intamin Megalite. They're those highly-ranked coasters like Kawasemi and Piraten. They placed 4th and 5th in Mitch Hawker's 2008 Internet Coaster Poll. They'd be a smaller, cheaper, but likely more successful. The only problem is that in America most think incorrectly that Bigger=Better. This may be why we haven't seen any of these in the States yet. Too bad because they look like a lot of fun.
CarolinaGirl, KDCoasterman did a good job of explaining how the new Carowinds hyper could fit in the space left vacant by the log flume. Here's a picture of Behemoth showing how they squeezed it in Canada's Wonderland.
I understand where you come from but Kings Dominion is in heavy competition with Busch Gardens and Six Flags and quite frankly people think bigger= better so a megalite wouldn’t attract more people to the park in my opinion. I am a huge fan of maverick at cedar point and agree that bigger is not always better.
Thanks for the info. Now it's time to hurry up and wait I guess…..
The best choice would probably an Intamain hyper. S:ROS and Expidition GeForce was one and two in Mitch Hawker's poll for about EIGHT YEARS! The public loves them to.
Guys They are being very Hush Hush about the new ride being built at Carowinds, I'm working the season there and they won't even tell the employees what's going in….I'll have to agree with you by watching the construction and the fact they are building UP lands ground level in a centralized area I wouldn't be surprised to see a hyper-coaster go in…
Was just at KD this weekend. I have some friends in interesting places of employment there. They confirmed that there ARE plans in place for a NEW coaster there. Located back behind Flight of Fear. Confirmation comes from some highly placed sources that I cannot name here.
ok I was reading coaster-net forums and there was someone posting under the username brad saying their dads company was contracted to build the entrance/exit queue rails for kings dominions 2010 roller coaster
I was just at Carowinds this past Sunday. The part of the parking lot that stretches along the edge of the front of the park has been fenced off. From the looks of it, the station will be in place of the log flume, and the ride will stretch outside of the park perimeter into the fenced area. It appears that it will be an out-and-back coaster, considering the width of the area. Then again, no one knows for sure.
Harry, did they happen to tell you what type of coaster this is?
I don't think that KD will have a B&M coaster, especially a Hyper. Considering BGE already has Apollo's Chariot and two other B&M coasters. For KD to build anything in close resemblance to BGE would just make them look like copy cats. I personally don't care for KD, but they could step up thier game with something like Maverick. As for the B&M flyer that will be going to BGE.
THEY SHOULD TRANSFORM NIGHTHAWK TO THE NIGHT DRAGON!
A FLYING COASTER WITH THE LARGEST PRETZEL LOOP IN THE WORLD!
Hello
I'm back again with another long comment.
I was at KD this past Tuesday to try and get a glipmse at the construction occuring behind the Anaconda but was rewarded with a vista of the new yellow track supports! After leaving the park I went down a side road near the park and took a closer look at the support segiments. They are NOT B&M supports. Kings Dominion management wouldn't be interested in a WELL-PROVEN kind of coaster any-way.(they like exprimental)
If you take a look at what Lance of Screamscape has to say,
(check out the KD page on Screamscape and scroll to the bottom) He also believes the supports were not B&M.
As for the park Management, they are trying to keep the project as under wraps as possible. One of the rides management personnel told my in the park source that the supports are "part of a state fair ride."
I say HA! All of the coaster community can tell the difference between roller coaster parts from state fair ignorance.
On my own thought, Kings Dominion is proffient at building coasters will deliberate speed so i suspect that this coaster wont start heading up til early to mid october.
Coaster pieces will continue to steadily stream in during the summer months.
The themeing of this coaster is probably following the theme of KI's expansion of FoF's plaza into X-Base. I look for a streamline theme and name like KI's Firehawk.
(How about, Marauder or Afterstrike)
Also, like everyone has been asking, 'Why are there coaster parts there already?'
I say, because, maybe, like I said before this coaster might be big. REAL BIG. And they need the extra time to ship all the parts to the park.
As for track color. Who Knows with Cedar Fair. The might stick with the traditional red like many of their new coasters have recieved (Diamondback, Maverick, Top Thrill Dragster, Thunderhawk, Firehawk) Or maybe KD will get an unconventional color, (Silver, Blue, Sky Blue, Black).
Who knows?
Carowinds 2010 Coaster.
Like i said in my last entry, the coaster will weave through the parking lot. I think this coaster will more likely reflect Behemoth than Diamondback after seeing new construction photos.
After seeingthe construction site(all flat and ready for digging footers.) isuspect we will see footer contstruction start within a week and track will begin to appear on site with the month (my lotto date would be by june 24th) I also dont believe this coaster will have a splash like KI's Diamondback.
This coaster will be big but possibly just a different version of behemoth, in other words(for those without Passport.) It would be an overall park inprovement though.
The supports are the new Intamin supports they used on ispeed and the motor bike ride in australia. It will likely be like maverick. now it will be interesting to see if cedar fair makes a coaster better than one of cedar points(maverick)there has also been a reported long narrow clearing out by rebel yell so it could possibly be for launch track
I work at the anaconda so i see them working on the it everyday!
Did anybody know that kd's coaster supports are being put back into a truck and being shiped off. I asked one of the ride attendants at KD and they said they accidentaly got Carowinds coaster.
Just to inform you guys on here. The supports that are at/were at KD, were meant to be shipped to Carowinds… if you go to youtube and search around on there, there is a video saying and showing the supports being loaded back on the truck. Hope this is coaster like never before seen.
Can you keep us updated?
I will do my best… i will be going to carowinds the 17th… ill take pics and tell everyone what i see…
I had heard the same thing about the mix up with the track going to the wrong park. It sounds very unlikely, but I guess anything's possible. I'd rather believe that they wanted the track to go to KD so that they could check it out before it arrived at Carowinds. Even that seems very odd. When I get some kind of confirmation that the track has been removed from KD then I'll update the post. Either way, KD is still supposed to get a roller coaster in 2010 so don't worry Virginians!
well i have e-mailed one of Carowinds' park managers and i told her about the type of coaster i thought would be comming to carowinds.. see said "a BIG stab in the dark" with a smiley face winking so maybe i was right, then she said you'll see soon enough… so maybe they will be revealing something very soon…
hey guys… well it looks like Carowinds may not be getting a coaster after all… who knows though… the was red track being unloaded at Kings Dominion today.. a total of 6 track pieces… its a difficult roller coaster to predict.. tell me what you guys think?!
I was at kD and the new coaster track that arrived looks like a Premier LIM coaster.
kd_anaconda_kdwork, let us know if you can find anything out about the new coaster.
sphantom, that new red track that arrived does look kind of like a premier ride. I've heard others argue that it could still be an Intamin though. And some are arguing that it could be something really BIG. Nothing confirmed yet.
Stay tuned!
It has been confirmed that the new track is Intamin by an article from first drop. They went with this new design because it is stronger than the square track.
I spoke to a KD worker this past week who stated that the Intamin Giga rumor is still on!
After looking at the coaster track images up close, to me they look like an exprimental design for Intamin. It dooesn't look like Vekoma or Premier to me because of the spacing between the supports on the lower part of the track.
The backbone of coaster could fit thye rumor of a Giga coaster.
But alas, More time is needed to determine the indentity of this coaster.
Im sureit will be incredible and intimidating.
I doubt it'll be a giga coaster. I'm not positive on Millineum Forces numbers, But the "other" giga coaster, Steel Dragon 2000, cost 50 MILLION dollars. I can see a hyper going in though.
well, guys… not sure about the type of coaster but i am about 89% sure it'll be a hyper… think about it logically.. the supports for a hyper are either horizontal, left, or right… if you look at where the markings are for footers at Carowinds, for example it says C57L meaning: C for Carowinds, 57 for the support, and L for left…GREAT WAY to think about it!!
I was thinking maybe a Multi-Dimensional? I can't find the comment, but I think one said that "a long, skinny area was being cleared" An Intamain Multi-dimensional doesn't take turns. Also, back at post 11, KD Coasterman said KD was an "expiremental" park. I doubt it, but it's just a thought.
P.S. I think we've broken the comments record.
kings island has established building a hyper coaster i wouldnt be suprised if kigs dominion copys them.
guess what people…. i have seen semi trucks pulling in acroos form Thunder Road… possibly carrying our new B&M coaster!! never know though… I am going to Carowinds 2morrow!!
does anyone have any idea yet on what kind of coaster it is??
my previous coment is aimed toward kd
CoastersRUle, If u check out the KDfansite forums the main concesus is the coaster is an Intamin and a 'possible' Giga coaster. The way they explain in the forum sometimes doesn't make sense to me but I believe my friend in the park.
He says that what they r getting, so i believe him.
Thnx KDCoasterman
I have recently received an email about the roller coaster and they said they will strat to release major info inaugust of this year.
if you go back to the 30s in coments they talk about LIM coasters….do u think hey could be sort of re building Hyper sonic??
well the original rumors were for a premier coaster, and they do LIM coasters so some people thought it would be a premier launched because thats what theya are known for, but it has since been confirmed that it is going to be Intamin
I was at the park on friday and I heard a strange rumor about the defuct Hypersonic.
As everyone knows, the Hypersonic was removed at the end of the 2007 season due to its "unpopularity"
Now the coaster sits in pieces behind the Hurler roller coaster.
Well…
I heard a rumor that coaster may be move in upcoming months!
I know for a fact the coaster hasn't been sold and that nobody is interested in that matenaince nightmare.
So….
Does this have to do anything with the 2010 coaster?
Just thought I would put that out there.
And oh yeah.
What's up with Carowind's rumored coaster name, Intimidator.
Haha
I highly doubt that will be the name of a B&M Hyper.
Though, it could work on a Intamin Giiga?
To me a Giga for KD seems unlikely. For those that don't know that's a roller coaster in the 300 foot tall range. There are only two (complete circuit) roller coasters in existence, one being Millennium Force at Cedar Point. They're just really, really expensive and I don't see the need. I was thinking Intamin Mega Lite, like a hyper coaster, but with that double-spine track and its similarity to the Dubai coaster, I guess it will be some type of launch coaster. I would rather see something with some great tall, airtime packed hills, but we may not.
For Carowinds, I think it would really cool if they could go with a name like 'Intimidator' (Earnhardt Sr.'s nick name) and tie in NASCAR which is REALLY BIG in this area. That'd be really smart on Cedar Fair's part. Many types of coasters could be 'intimidating to the average park goer. A B&M hyper would do the trick. Although with a race car type of theme, a launcher of some type might make more sense. Something like Xcelerator at Knott's Berry Farm would be perfect.
has anyone heard or seen when or where supports or track is supposed to be arriving at Carowinds… im so freakin' excited… i WANT to know what it is!! lol… anybodyy… send me any information about the coaster for 2010 at carowinds.. or any links… thanks!!!!
I think the coaster at KD will be a launch coaster it seems like it will be espescially since the track is smallr..
CAROWINDS HYPER COASTER CONFIRMED!!!
As usual, waiting in the queue for Carolina Cobra, it broke down right in front of us. Waiting for 30 minutes got boring fast, so I started up a conversation with a park employee.
–
The news? A 240 FT. HYPER COASTER! He spoke with the actual builders of the 2010 hyper, saw the plans, but couldn't get a name. He compared it to be somewhat like Canada's Behemoth, with a striking 5,300 ft. of track. Take that, KD!
Sorry I didn't mention above, but if you look at a Carowinds map, the coaster will span from the cleared area, then from the North to South gate. It's going to be huge.
so do you think kd will get a hyper??
Coasterfreak, to answer your question about where supports and tracks will show up, check out this thread on Carowinds Connection: Staging of Past Carowinds Coasters. It shows where past coaster track & supports were placed when they were building rides like BORG, Hurler, & Carolina Cobra.
If the past is any indicator, the new track may be placed in the parking lot near the South Gate.
So what kind of coaster (new/old) would use a double spine and why?
Not sure if this means anything…
http:/www.themeparkreview.com/forum/files/giga_____428.jpg
P.S. How do you hyper link?
Okay it's the same guy as above, and if this is going to KD, then there would be a massive uphevel in the coaster world. This is like, KD's 16th coaster. One more and they will tie the recored for the most. We may have Cedar Point 2. There are two gigas on EARTH.
Somehow, I got cut off. Well, if this isn't a photoshop or an out and out lie, then I'm shocked. KD isn't the ultamite flagship park. It's like some worker for Cedar Fair said,"I'm sick and tired of KD getting smaller stuff than KI. KI has a world record and another coaster over 200ft. KD's highest is about 150ft. I'm a local and KD needs to compete with BGE" So everyone agrees, because Virginia is the 12th most popular state, etc.
Even so, I'm skeptical. We may have another photoshopper here. Now I'm done
i dont understand that like….wgat does it mean??
Thanks Anonymous for bringing the picture of the packing slip to my attention. I've written an update post on the home page.
I think its real even though I just wrote that I couldn't see Kings Dominion getting a giga coaster. I'm shocked! This is great news for my old home park. I haven't been in years, but I'll definitely be there next year. I would've been no matter what the next coaster would've been, but now it's a no-brainer. I can't wait for more details to surface.
Possible clue on Carowinds coaster…
Carowinds is already selling shirts as part of their roller coaster Ride Warriors collection that may be a preview of their new coaster.
http://www.carowindsconnection.com/viewtopic.php?…
scroll down to the 2nd shirt after the pink hat with all the bling.
Shirt looks like a race car tire that's flaming. Could rumor about the NASCAR theme be legit? Wonder if they accidentally started selling this shirt too early? I can't understand the relevance of this shirt in 2009 at Carowinds with what there is to ride on now, can anyone else?
To those people who think that picture of the shipping label to KD new coaster is photoshopped, well its not! I was just there yesterday and walked up to the fence and saw the package and I was able to see small print in the exact same corner as the picture has shown. So it looks like KD is going to be getting a nice new giga next year.
dont get to excited…its not offical…but a giga coaster would be amazing!!
I work at Carowinds and the area supervisors do know everything about the new roller coaster but aren't releasing any information to anyone. Some of us were bothering one of the managers about it and when i mentioned a hyper coaster she smiled and turned away. But they already know the full plans for it, height/color/name/etc… If i find anything else i'll let you know
Also, they said it probably won't be opened until 2011
I know not to get excited, but a giga coaster does make sense. The park has no height restrictions and its within driving distance of DC, Baltimore, and Williamsburg so there are definitely going to be enough people around the park to come and ride the coaster and spend $.
Yes, that and they said the track was stronger which means less supports=less cash. Intamain is a smart designer, so this might cost more around Titan than Millinium Force.
More pieces of track were delivered today and they are part of the lift and they definitely are for a cable lift system and Intamin only put cable lifts on giga coasters so this must mean that it is a giga. Let the anxiety continue.
Um, Goliath at Walibi World has one, and it doen't even class as a hyper at 150ft.
I'm so excited to ride this I hear that the drop is two. times the height of dominator
haha the roller coaster at Kings Dominion. Looking at the track design it looks like a baby roller coaster!
has anybody heard anything about track or supports arriving at carowinds? i mean it sucks that we really havent seen much of anything!!
attention carowinds fanss…,the coaster may not be completed until late 2010 or 2011
(coasterrule) do you no when the construction of the coaster is supposed to begin… even though it may take a while!!!!
dude they havent even began building it. Its going to be later then that
My lotto date for Carowinds coaster to arrive is July 1st. Dunno, just seems right.
I heard they are going to start to build it around october
ok thats good to know. And i live like right near the parks!
According to kdfansite more pieces of track and and supports were delivered to kings dominion and the person said kings dominion has a police car stationed to keep people away from the fenced out area. And the person also said there was a large yellow piece that didn't look like track but also didn't look like a support either, any guesses?
o thats old in my book. I heard that a while ago. Well now that the word is out, nothing much they can do. Right now they should put up a sign for that roller coaster and advertise it. I know that place is going to be so crowded on media day
I agree i would have at least thought that by now they would start putting up teaser signs by the construction sight and/or the fence surrounding the track pieces similar to what carowinds is doing and like they did for diamondback. But hopefully with footers being poured and more supports arriving maybe we will get some pieces going vertical by the time they announce it, but i highly doubt it.
ya there still trying to hide this. It was actually on the news channel a week ago! Just put up a sign saying new ride 2011 giga coaster so people will actually pay attention to this
I guess KD just wants to keep building up the anxiety, but they basically spilled the beans during that news interview so they might as well just announce it now and make everyone happy.
yeah
im just amazed how they think that no one knows. Its hilarious!
They know that everyone knows, they just act like we don't know anything and its driving me nuts. Im fairly certain they get on everyday and read everything everybody has to say about their new coaster and they must start freaking out because they probably realize that almost everyone is on track and the reason they arent saying anything is because they dont want us to know that we are right.
ok… carowinds is being a little slow but i guess it will happen in all due time… i just wish footers were starting to be poured or something SURPRISING would start arriving… uugghh… just sit here and wait!!!!
A worker at KD has cofirmed most of the stats for the new coaster. It will be 400 ft tall, the first drop will be 395 ft, the second drop 298ft and the 3rd drop 219 ft. It will top out at 108 mph and 5427ft of track. The coaster will be the first giga coaster with loops. 3 loops 2 barrell rolls and 1 helix. There will also be some type of new element to this coast that has never been seen. This is the main reason for the new structure of the tracks. The name of the coaster will be "Revenge of the KING KOBRA". The coaster will have an elevator lift like MF at Cedar Point. It will start behind the Rebel Yell and go behind the Anaconda. It will also include 2 areas with a launch similar to Maverick at Cedar Point. The Coaster will set 7 records when it is complete.
Let us see…
1. 5427ft seems a little to short for what you say it will do.
2. Why on earth would it need a launch when it goes 108 mph?
3. 400ft. seems a bit to tall
4. How big is the loop and where is it on the ride.
I know you probably can't answer these but I'm just wondering…
i'm not sure why they would need a launch unless it is needed to clear the 2nd and 3rd hills that are 200 plus ft. The KD employee said that he has not seen the lay out of the coaster himself, but if the 2nd and 3rd hill are not close to the first drop a launch could be useful. Remember a Giga coaster is any coaster that is 300-400ft tall. It has long be rumored that the new coaster will be taller then the Eiffel tower which is 331ft. No mention made on the inversions other the number. MF at Cedar Point is 310ft. So it is very likely that the numbers that were mentioned could be fact.
Listen clif, they havent even started to build it yet. Well i cant really trust you right now you could be just lying about this stuff. I am not believing this one bit and why would it need a second launch?
but the real question, clif, is will it make my coffee for me in the morning?
Nice one CarolinaGirl. Those stats do seem a bit impossible. Roller coasters that tall don't do inversions because they have way too much speed. Tell that worker to pick either the crazy 395' drop or the launches and loops like Maverick, but not both. I don't think those stats would even work in Roller Coaster Tycoon. Get him to take some spy photos of the plans since he has inside info.
Coasterfreak, their getting ready for footers. I was at Carowinds today and they were putting together the rebar that will hold the footers together. I'd expect some pretty interesting photos in the next 7 to 10 days. I'll put some of my construction photos up soon.
i mean seriously clif, what did this guy do at the park. Was he the owner of it or was he the janitor of the bathrooms
Some massive footer are now done at KD and they look like they are for an overbanked turn. Also some more track was delivered too, some lift pieces and double spined track. Hopefully we might see some supports go vertical sooner than we think.
I wonder if they are going to have a lift like Millinium Force which is powered just like an elevator. Those lifts are fast and should be used on all Giga coasters. Thats why Steel Dragon isnt that good. They have one of the slowest lifts in the world for one of the tallest roller coasters in the world!
I've never ridden Steel Dragon, but people were saying the exact same thing about the lift. I think this coaster will have the same lift as Millennium Force cause everyone keeps saying how the elevator lift systems are faster, smoother, and safer than chain lifts.
Steel Dragon 2000 doesn't have cable lift. You must remember that SD2000 is a Morgan coaster.
Oh ya, here is proof -http://www.coastergallery.com/japan/N10.html
Topic closed.
well i dont know if its a chain lift or whatever it is but all i know is that its so freaking slow the lift is like 3 times longer than the whole ride
All I know is that thanks to Clint on kdfansite that our new coaster at KD does have a cable lift and not a cable launched thanks to the pic he took of the hill crest
it will be a hyper at carowinds 240 ft. high 5,300 ft. long
112 mph. i know these things because i work there it will be called intimidator
Wouldn't it be around 80 mph, not 112?
Wow 112 mph. Thats pretty impressive for a hyper coaster. I knew that this ride wasnt going to be a giga coaster. I mean Carowinds just built the Carolina Cobra they arent going to do such a big project like that. Well i live like 15 minutes from the park. When i hear that this ride will oopen, i am so going over there
112 mph isn't possible on a hyper coaster. 300 foot tall coasters couldn't generate that kind of speed much less coasters in the 200 foot tall range. I'm looking forward to an announcement coming hopefully in August or September. I can't wait to get the official details. I DO hope it's called Intimidator thought. The NASCAR tie-in would be genius even if a hyper coaster doesn't really lend itself to a race like experience.
What is your take on the rather BIG footer? (photo posted on Carowinds Connection)
(I mean the footer at Carowinds)
CarolinaGirl, I saw it. For those who haven't it's on this CarowindsConnection message board thread. About the 5th or 6th post down.
The only reason I can think of the need of such a large footer would be for the base of the lift hill. I've seen some interesting diagrams where people have sketched out the layout of the footers. Maybe I will repost them here at some point, but there are conflicting sketches and they're just best guesses.
i really hope it's not called the intimidator. it just doesn't seem bolliger and mabillard hyper worthy. maybe for a floorless, stand-up, or sitdown… but not for a hyper.
What about the name Krakatoa, theme it to the volcano.
or Phoenix or Fireball, theme it to fire/flames.
if the red track in ohio is for carowinds, then those names would go great.
Fireball sounds like a pretty nice name. But the intimidator sounds pretty good. I think that that name will fit well. Who knows how they will theme this ride.
Intimidator is not my favorite name choice for a B&M hyper, though I do understand the appeal of the Nascar tie-in. I like the name itself, I just think it would better suit a meaner, nastier coaster. I like the idea of Krakatoa, but I think it would be completely baffling to most people and doesn't relate to NC/SC. Also, KD has the launch coaster Volcano. Phoenix I like, but I am not sure it connotes enough speed/size. I am partial to the name StormSurge, but that doesn't work for a red track. So…assuming the red track is ours, how about taking "Fireball" a step further: Firestorm.
fire·storm (frstôrm)
n.
1. A fire of great size and intensity that generates and is fed by strong inrushing winds from all sides
I seriously doubt that KD will get a giga coaster. The track doesn' even look like a giga. Hypercoaster or something new I strongly agree to. Carowinds I strongly predict a hypercoaster, hopefully around 240ft. That would suit Carowinds good. The stuff there isn't that tall so a good hyper would do justice. KD with a giga….uhh…my vote is no. But hey….who knows?
umm I dont know where you have been but it has been confirmed KD is getting a giga a WHILE ago. seriously and the new track at KD is new intamin track they are using now for various reasons. Try reading the updates the coaster critic does before you post.
Yeah its been on my new channel haha. They said its going to be 350 ft. tall thats all i know right now. They actually got there cameras really close up to the tracks. Ya thats been out for a while now. Just look at the date when the coaster critic posted this
Carowinds coaster now has a possible name, see more here http://www.carowindsconnection.com/viewtopic.php?…
For all the latest photo updates go to this thread http://www.carowindsconnection.com/viewtopic.php?…
Hey all. My husband works in management at KD. Sorry to disappoint everyone, but KD will not be getting a Giga Coaster. The coaster will be 240 ft and a drop of 235 ft with a top speed of 85 mph. The Giga some of you saw on a photo of the shipping label was not an indication of the type of coaster, just the department it came from. To reduce costs, the track is specially designed.
More later,
Mindy
I'm back.
Some of you KDFansiters may have noticed me inject one or two comments on the forum. I'm not a big talker. More of a info gatherer.
First of all. My idea of the Giga reaching the outer reaches of Grizzly seem to be false.
Also, Kings Dominion officials have decided to not have Hypersonic moved or rebuilt. Currently, they are waiting for steel prices to rise again and are hoping for the best price for its solemn remains. Personally, I thought the removal of Hypersonic as unjust and solely based of the budget. It was popular and one of a kind.
The Giga's footers are taking place and forming into the patterns of xtreme thrills. For the past two weeks most work has been concentrated behind Rebel Yell's turnarounds. A large basin has develop in this area and some believe it to be a splash down element. This claim is rediculous.
First, The splashdown element is solely a B&M trademark. The closest a Intamin coaster has gotten to a "splash" design was Maverick. I believe it is nothing more than a drainage basin.
On a special note, I beieve Lifthill footer construction is now fully underway. The interesting trough looking footer area is transfer and brakes. The 'large' holes must be the large footers for our lift hill.
Now to the stats. This is my FINAL prediction.
55 Degree Cable lift.
335 feet tall.
320 foot drop.
102 MPH
Eleven AirTime Hills
6895 Feet of Track.
Each train would seat six per car, six cars per train. 36 Seats.
Name? Now thats the question.
We'll find out August 20th, 2009.
Just there last week and noticed that a good chunk of the parking lot has been fenced off all the way from the front gate to south gate…maybe this will be the stretch
Simply what I was doing in my previous post about Kings Dominion getting a Giga coaster, was stating my opinion. There hasn't been any facts on either parks, just assumptions and guesses, so TRAVIS how do you know that the GIGA has been confirmed at KD. Are you on the inside or just on the outside making and taking guesses like everyone else.
I agree with wondering coaster fanatic there is no way this stuff can be confirmed only KD can do that. All of this now is just speculation, assumptiopn, and guessing. It may be a giga coaster, but we wont know for sure until KD gives the official word…until then there is no way to know for sure
Well Wonderingcoasterfanatic, i heard on a daily news station, they actually got information that it was going to be a giga coaster…350 ft high
man i can not wait because i'm a thrill seeker i've been on the kingda ka $_$
i can not beleve that it might be taller then my fav the millinium force at cedar point?_?
can not wait yes is it finally here the one coaster that will blow your mind the giga coaster of 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope It Is>>>>!>!>!>!>!>!>!!>>!>>>>>>>
Well Matthew I guess you are leaning me towards believing that KD is getting a Giga Coaster. Wow I can't believe it. I'm just ready for them to officially announce the specs. of the coaster. 350 ft….really. Wow. Well I guess KD has always gotten the good stuff for the most part.
Well you know that news stations could say anything. Thats what i heard when i was watching it. So dont tell the whole world that its 350 ft. high, cause they could be wrong lol
Yeah youre right about that. I'm just ready for both parks to announce what they are getting. I live close to Carowinds and I still can't tell what they are getting. If KD is getting a Giga, that would be awesome. They do always get the good stuff so they deserve a Giga.
I heard 335 feet Intamin Giga coaster for KD. Nothing on the Carowinds coaster, but have not been paying as much attention as to the Giga. Let's just hope if it's Intamin that it will be awesome and not sucktacular because they have such an inconsistent track record (TTD vs. Ka, Maverick vs. Fahrenheit) of creating similar coasters where one is spectacular coaster engineering and then the other is godawful or at least dull and boring. I'm a fan of the inventive, and Intamin certainly is inventive, but the inconsistency irks me. I'm just hoping for the best.
hey bunky666, where did you hear it was going to be 335 ft. tall. I mean so many people have been saying so many different things i want to know where everyones getting all this information
I asked an employee of Kings Dominion about the new coaster tracks in the parking lot. He told me it will be around 300 feet tall and named the Intimidator. He was not sure when it would be completed.
wonderingcoasterfanatic, the giga has been confirmed at KD, august 20 they will anounce its a giga, they have labels all over the track that say giga coaster and if you ask john pagel if its a giga he starts smileing.
Ok Travis….I was just in dis-belief at first…but hey yall have convinced me. I just can't believe a giga coaster will be close to me. I can't wait until the announcemts from Carowinds and KD.
I just hope the carowinds ride is going to be awsome because its supposed to be record breaking and i also hope with my life that they build a single rider line because the one at kings island for diamondback was only 5 min wait on single.
They had one when Nighthawk first opened but they did away with it and now just yell for 1 or 2 riders. Go opening weekend, it is never crowded. Maybe next year but I doubt a crowd over 100 will be there when gates open.
I remeber that now but i wonder why they did away with it Even if you are in a group its faster to go in a single person line
I know i sometimes think hey, maybe my family can hop in the single persons line so we can all go on the line quicker lol
B&M track was spotted at Carowinds today. So as everyone expected, more than likely Carowinds will be getting a B&M Hyper, and yes it was the red track that was spotted at the B&M plant in Ohio a while ago.
Hey can you please tell me where the track pieces are because im going to carowinds tom. and i would like to scope everything out.
Schwarz….On the other side of Thunder Road. Ride the blue train side and you will be able to see the track pieces.
thanks wonderingcoasterfanatic i will be riding the blue thunder road a lot so i can check out the pieces.
Have any you have seen this
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/index.c…
didn't know where to put this
looks like cedar point might be getting a new coaster in 2010 also
I hadn't seen the Cedar Point tease. I included it in my Theme Park News Round Up post. If you ever have news you can use the contact form. I might miss it if you submit it as a comment and your comment is automatically approved. But I won't miss anything submitted via the contact form. Thanks for sending it in!
My insider at Carowinds today.(The guy running the sky tower) said that the ride is going to be 400ft plus and 95 to 100 mph. Dont know if its true but thats what I heard.
I have just returned from carowinds yesterday and the mysterious box makes noises. The noises are first race cars starting their engine then it is race cars coming around a turn. I believe that inside of the crate is either an old race car or a model of a race car, most likely Dale Earnhardts number 3 car because the blue highlighted 12E could be the coaster designer but it could also be 1+2=3 Earnhardt.
Oh also the trackpieces by thunder road look like brakes
I honestly think that Carowinds is storing track for Cedar Point. That would make perfects sense too. Cedar Points new rides always get given away from ppl spotting the track…hello!!!! The facebook and twitter pages for CP say things about lightning too…there's a picture for the carowinds coaster called "White Lightning". It all fits together if you ask me. Has anyone actually seen land clearing at Carowinds?
Yes Michael…..footers haven been created and everything. The track is for Carowinds. They have an announcement date and all.
I honestly think it will be at Kings Dominion, maybe Carowinds and KD are both getting new rides? It doesnt really matter, we will all find out on August 20th what is going to happen…
Ok well what about kings dominion? maybe they're storing track. i understand they have done land clearing but that could be for anything…storage maybe? but if you look you can see that it says nothing on the KD site about anything new. why is that? although i could be completely wrong and Cedar Point might not be even getting a coaster. but hey, i can hope.
Dude, they're getting a coaster
Michael go to the carowinds website and tell me what the first thing you see is. Also go to kdfansite to see the LAND CLEARING that they are doing at kings dominion. After that tell me if carowinds and kings dominion are getting rides.
ok yeah i understand the carowinds ride for sure…and yeah i can see some major land clearing at KD…but im just lost as to why the main KD site doesn't say anything at all..now once again like i said before, i could be completely wrong.
I kinda agree with Michael on this one. I also haven't seen any info on the KD site.
there is a confirmed announcement date for kings dominion when they are going to confirm what the ride is. So if you don't believe me then you will have to wait until August 20th
I believe you I promise I do. I can really understand that both parks are getting new coasters. But can anybody tell me why the KD main site says absolutely nothing?
Because they are trying to keep what the ride is a secret.
I thnk that both parks are getting hypercoasters. One from Intamin and the other form B&M. I think originaly the B&M was suuposed to go to KD, but KD realize that they would be copying BGE and decided to go with a different designer and send the B&M to Carowinds. They WILL be record-breaking and new for Virgina and the Carolinas, but not the country or the world. If that were the case CP would not promote two coasters at two diffrent parks to debut around the same time using somewhat of the same promo slogan. I think they do that for locals who are not in the "know" of other record-breaking coasters.
dude lanceindc kd is getting a GIGA coaster!
Yeah i agree with Schwarz. I saw many fan sites showing for sure KD is getting a giga coaster. Lance you should get some facts straight.
No one really knows for sure. The only clue we have is the Giga Coaster label found on some track in KD's parking lot. Intamin could use Giga parts on other coasters for all we know. I don't think anyone knows for sure unless you are the few who work at KD at the top or you work for Intamin. We'll all know on the 20th though. So stay tuned.
yep the 20th. Also on kdfansite there are new pictures. =}
Good point coaster critic.
Im going to Carowinds on Tuesday and i really want to check out these track pieces they have found. Im very exited to see the land theve cleared out and all the action around the ride
matthew, if you want to get a good view of the land they cleared where the log flume used to be then go on the carolina sky tower and the rocket power ride.
So ummm…why isn't anybody saying anything anymore?
'Cause were waiting for the 20th.
mike just chill
Actually, I DO know the height of the Giga at KD. Check this out! A job posting (whick you can view by going here: http://www.cedarfair.com/ir/careers/permanent.cfm… for a maintinence position at KD has the requierment of "Ability to climb to heights of 350 ft" NOTHING in the park is close to that…(tallest thing is 305 the eiffel tower's highest point). So we now have confirmation: A 350 footer! SWEET!
sorry i'm just getting bored. i need something new and exciting to talk about.
http://i272.photobuc…ion/malinda.jpg
In Biggest, bigg looks like 8155, a possible length
Food for thought.
Austin, where'd you get the 305' height for the Eiffel Tower? Thrill Network's database lists the total height at 330 or so feet. Could they be rounding up to 350' in the job description?
Anonymous, your link didn't work. Try again. By the way 8155 would make it the longest roller coaster in the world by 20 feet.
and someone at kdfansite said the word bigger flipped upside down the gge look like 355 which they think could be the hieght and they also zoomed in on the date and the /09 part looks like 104 which could be the speed an if they are right then its going to be sweet
I got it!!!
1.) take the word BIGGER
2.) now look at your phone… B=2, I=4, G=4, G=4, E=3, R=7
3.) delete the B and the E and the R, because the formula doesn't work if you leave them in
4.) you are now left with the word "IGG"…..and everyone knows what THAT means!
–obviously, this means the coaster is going to be 444 ft. tall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Should I know what IGG means?? cause..well…i don't.
oh and also if it was going to be 444ft tall the pieces wouldn't say giga, they'd say strata.
Exactly! If you change the "I" to "S", the "G" to "T", the next "G" to "R", then add A-T-A, you get STRATA. Like I said, 444 ft.
*sigh*
I went to cedar point on wedensday and rode millenium force when on the island half I noticed the concrete footers and also pirate ship masts
ooh footers?? and ugh…pirate ship masts?
Yea i was there 3 weeks ago and saw tht stuff too and my guess is tht its for their pirate's passage haunted maze for now
If you take a look at the white lightning page it says a beverage unlike any other
does this mean a new type of coaster possibly from intamin
Cedar point has gour intamin coasters and they have the longest lines in the park Millenium Force Maverick and Top Thrill Dragster where new kinds of coasters when they came out does this mean another new kind of coaster
They could also go for a gci woodie try to take a wooden record from kings island or go with the tallest b&m flyer
on whyte lightning it says a berverage unlike any other
could this mean a new type of roller coaster possibly intamin because
1. they supplied cedar point last four roller coaster
2. those four coasters have the longest lines in the park
3. three of the four where new types of coasters
that would be so awesome if they invented a new kind of coaster! i think its getting hard though they have so many kinds already. even a B&M flyer would rock too.
seen this
http://whitelightning.carowinds.com
I think the Jeff Gordon visits to cedar fair parks have something to do with this
he rode on millenium force with contests winners wouldn't it make more sense to ride on dragster with the racing themem since he's a nascar driver
mabye there hinting a new racing themed coaster on millenium island or taking the six flags route and re themeing millenium force
If they theme Millennium Force i might just have to punch somebody in the face. (don't worry, not a threat)
Cedar Points twitter page says defitnely not taking the beemer out for a spin today or even next year
cedar point isn't going to get a b&m
but cedar fair could get two roller coasters named white lightning a gci twister woodie for sedar point and a intamin giga coaster for kings dominion
it says the crystal rock brewing company of west virginia insted of west virginia state it could mean west of the state virgina where kings dominion is located
that west virginia thing is kind of a good point. but you know maybe they could get a B&M and they're saying definitely NOT to throw us off. doubt it but i just really hope they get something good. might not even get a roller coaster at all…but hey, who knows?
check the cedar point blog again hinting at removal off snake river falls which is next to millenium island
new coaster going to be in former location of snake river falls and unoccupied millenium island
I'm not sure about whether this is true or not and if some one already mentioned this then im sorry, but i heard that the new coaster at KD is supposed to be like millenium force's big brother. can someone please confirm/ deny this please?? Thanks!
i cant freakin wait for this mega coaster at kd…i just rode the diamondback at kings island its like nitro i rate the coaster 6/10 its ok my fav is the millennium force at cedar point the best park IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!
yeah i saw the blog about SRF but all it said was it wouldn't celebrate its 17th birthday. nothing about tearing it down…i really hope they do though.
sorry i meant *they* wouldn't celebrate its birthday
MICHAEL WATS UP
I HEARD THAT THERE TAKEING THE SON OF BEAST OUT FOR GOOD!
Thats the rumor…
SoB is a hell of a ride…from hell
the removal of the sig in my opinion is… ahh
bad for the coaster. even though no words sit on that spot it spells disaster for the Mega Woodie.
By the way. I believe the KDFansiters have found that veritcal constrution will immediately begin after the annoucement. They have begune staging for it.
Why have people been ignoring the Carowind's coaster btw?
Its going to be a awesome ride as well. I gaurentee it.
I've never ridden SOB before but i always thought it looked pretty fun.
From what I've heard, it is the roughest ride in history and canidate for CC's "worst coaster" spot.
But back on topic…
Carowinds coaster isn't getting much attention becuase it'll be just another B&M hyper, like DB, Behemoth, AC, etc.
KD's coaster will be the THIRD giga-coaster on earth and in the running for world's longest coaster.
I'm sure Carowinds's coaster will be a great ride, but considering how much attention Millie get's by non fanboys…
i think that carowinds NC, does have some good roller coasters. i took a trip there last week, and i belive that the CAROLINA COBRA is one of the best roller coasters in the south east. theres nothing like it. i wonder what the coaster critic thinks about it. i even found videos of it on youtube. it really is a big deal, not only for carowinds but for the people who get to experience the power of the CAROLINA COBRA!! next time you go to carowinds, ride it. it gets addiccting. i also think that AFTERBURN,the CAROLINA CYCLONE, and THUNDER ROAD are inpressive, but the COROLINA COBRA is the best roller coaster i have ever ridden befor.
cedar point staff said that the new coaster at kd will benn 390 feet tall……..:)
Mr. Anonymous up there has a point. another hyper is just another hyper. unless it has some totally awesome never before see element or something, it probably will be nothing compared to KD's giga. i don't understand why they're announcing the hyper second. i'd save the best for last personally.
its 8/26 That is the date that they are going to officially anounce what the ride is.
carowinds has lots of exelent roller costers. what are you talking about?
matthew, did you ride the CAROLINA COBRA? it is awesome!!!!!!
if Cedar Point gets something new it better not be nascar themed. one with drag racing is quite enough.
Well it most likely does have some never before seen element because it is supposed to be record breaking history making and both of the rides most likely have nascar themes so they will both most likely feature some new element I mean I hope the record breaking isn’t for something stupid like the longest line or something.
Ok i went to Carowinds today and entering i saw construction work on the very edge of the park. I dont know but there is a sign that says something. I forgot a little bit of it but heres what i remember. it said something about breaking a record and it had a date on it. It either said 8-26 or 8-28. I looked at it and i thought thats really close from now. I had no idea what that sign meant but it means something
I think cedar points coaster will be a woodie with a record or a speicial twist or something. Cedar point needs a great woodie for attention.

No offense to you big KD fans, but I'm not gonna lie. When i saw what it is…i laughed a little. Not that it looks lame just that its smaller and slower than Millennium, which is what everyone was saying it wouldn't be. also that it's nascar themed.
I'm closing comments here. Please direct discussion of the new coaster here: Kings Dominion Announces Intimidator 305 And direct Carowinds 2010 comments here: Intimidator Coming to Carowinds.
